Equestrian Arena

Equine Management is increasing in popularity as one of the School's key vocational courses.  To support equine activities, as part of plans for the enhancement of facilities for Land Based Studies & Equine Management, the School's brief seeks to provide a new Equestrian Arena.  The school grounds are located within a "Capability Brown" landscape which is a registered Historic Park, listed Grade II*.  The site also falls within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  Mindful of the planning and historic constraints imposed on the proposal RiB Architecture and Geirsson Design Ltd. instigated consultation with local planning & conservation authorities as well as Historic England at an early stage.  Three potential manege sites within a relatively close range of the Stable Block were looked at and analysed in considerable detail.  Further input was received from Kevin Morris Heritage Planning Ltd., which contributed a detailed Heritage Statement for this project.  A consensus was reached that the site located within the existing canter track was the most suitable one, imposing the least impact on the existing listed landscape, and subsequently RiB Architecture submitted Planning & Conservation Consent applications to North Dorset District Council in December 2017.
